Description
I attended the Open House at McKinley Elementary on April 18, 2024 and could not believe the cars that failed to stop at the crosswalk at Parkview and Aztec. There were over a dozen people standing at the crosswalk on both sides of the street and cars just blew through. Is it not the law to stop at crosswalks when there are pedestrians present? This crosswalk needs flashing lights and a button. Please seriously consider this for the safety of your youngest citizens. Thank you.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to the City of Corona Traffic Engineering Department with your concern. Traffic Engineering conducted a Stop Warrants in 9/28/23 which the volumes for that intersection did not meet the thresholds per the CAMUTCD for a stop sign to be installed. The study does indicate there is a peak in volumes during school drop-off and pick-up. However, the warrant requires that the minimum vehicular volumes are met over an 8-hour period. We strive to thoughtfully evaluate each request, but unfortunately, the intersection of Parkview Dr and Aztec Ln/Fennel Dr did not meet.
Updated fluorescent school and warning signs have been installed to alert drivers of a school zone.
In addition, Traffic Engineering is evaluating this location for Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons to increase driver awareness of pedestrians crossing. The lights are activated via push button used by the pedestrian as they begin to cross the roadway.
Your collaboration in maintaining the safety of our streets is highly valued, and we thank you for your proactive involvement in this matter. For further inquiries regarding this incident please call us at (951) 736-2266.
